The school day begins at 8.55 a.m. and children are allowed to come onto the school site from 8.45 a.m. The school day ends at 3.15 p.m. for pupils in the Early Years classes and in Key Stage 1 (Infants) and at 3.20 p.m. for pupils in Key Stage 2 (Juniors).

Our playgrounds are supervised from 8.45 a.m. by members of staff and also at the end of the day for 10 minutes after the finish of the afternoon sessions.

Pupils who have not been met by parents/carers by 3.25 p.m. (Infants) and 3.30 p.m. (Juniors) will be accompanied by staff back into the main school building and will be supervised in the Reception area by a designated member of the Leadership Group. The senior member of staff will liaise with a member of the school’s administration staff with a view to making contact with the parents/carers of those pupils who still remain at school.

In the interests of the pupils and staff at Cage Green and to secure their safety and welfare, video surveillance is operational around the school site and the school gates are locked shortly after both the start of the school day and at the end of the afternoon session. Access by parents and visitors in to the school building always requires authorisation and an official Cage Green security badge will be issued by the administrative staff to all adults who have been granted that authorisation. In the best interests of everyone, visitors on the school site not wearing an approved badge will be challenged.

To support our Fire Safety procedures all visitors are required to complete an entry in the Visitors Book both on arrival and also at the end of their visit to the school. Visitors will also be provided with information about where to go in the event of a fire/emergency on site during their visits.

Cage Green is able to provide Disabled access to the school in to the main school building.

Lunch and playtime arrangements/drinks

Children in Key Stage One are provided with fruit under the Government’s Fruit Scheme. Parents of pupils in Key Stage Two may provide a piece of fruit for their child to eat at morning break. Parents may also order cartons of milk for their child if they so wish. Information may be obtained from the school office.

Unless we have a written request from parents for children to leave the premises at lunchtime, all children are expected to remain in school. This is purely for matters relating to the safety and welfare of pupils and is particularly important in the event of any emergency. Requests for lunchtime absence should be addressed in the first instance to the child’s class teacher.

Lunch time supervisors are employed to assist with the organisation and supervision of pupils between Mid-day and 1.15 pm each day and they are supported in their role by the Senior Midday Meals Supervisor whose job is to ensure that lunchtime works well and is enjoyed fully by all the pupils at the school. The school provides equipment to support the pupils’ playtimes both at morning play and at lunchtime. For pupils in Key Stage 1 who would benefit from organised activities to support their social skills and develop confidence and self-esteem, the school provides activity sessions inside the classrooms on a number of days each week. Currently we are providing opportunities for pupils in the following clubs at lunchtimes: Cooking, Photography, Art, Gardening, Construction, Circle time, Drawing, Computers, Story telling. These are constantly under review and may be subject to change.

Pupils from the Centre for Autism will be able to access the organised activities once appropriate levels of support are put in place.

During lunchtime playtimes our Infant (Key Stage 1) pupils also benefit from our ‘Buddy’ scheme operated by our oldest pupils in Year 6. The Year 6 pupils have the responsibility of leadership and enjoying playing the games with younger children, they provide real encouragement to the younger pupils to join in, take turns and to share with other children.

Reverse inclusion enables mainschool pupils to interact with pupils from The Centre. They demonstrate good models of both language and behaviour, as well as engaging more socially with those pupils who include in mainschool.
