At Cage Green, the safeguarding of our children is the most important thing we do.

How do we keep our children safe?

We provide a safe, supportive environment for children.

We have regular health and safety audits which ensure that our environment is safe, secure and appropriately managed.  All statutory policies are in place, alongside many additional policies to ensure that all children’s needs are met.  All adults in school are focused on the safety and safeguarding of children and are trained yearly in statutory safeguarding policy as well as supporting pupils to stay safe in a myriad of other ways. 

We react quickly and decisively when concerns are raised.

We have a team of staff who are responsible for safeguarding in school.  This team, is led by Mrs Ellis (Deputy Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead) are highly trained in dealing with concerns.  Our Headteacher Miss Styles and Assistant Headteachers, Mrs Maher and Mrs Clarke, are available to support parents who have concerns. Sometimes, we have to report our concerns to other agencies.  This can be difficult for parents to understand sometimes.  However, keeping children safe is our utmost priority, and we will do what we have to, unapologetically, to ensure that all children are kept safe.  

We ensure that children know what behaviour is safe and what is unsafe.

This includes workshops from organisations such as the NSPCC who talk to the children about the Pantosaurus.  We work with children constantly on what to do if they feel unsafe or if something worries them.  We listen to what children say when they tell us they are worried and we take appropriate action.  Every single adult in school, without any exception, is trained in how to deal with children who express a worry. 

We work with many agencies outside the school. 

There is a wide range of agencies involved in the safeguarding of children and the school works effectively in collaboration with these.  We identify vulnerable children and families who we think may need support.  All staff are trained to be aware of the signs that a child may need support and staff are aware of who to go to to ensure that children get the help they need.  Our large and highly skilled team provide this support in many cases.  In other cases, we signpost families to sources of help.  In some cases, we refer families to agencies to ensure that they receive the help they need. 

We ensure our staff in school are the right people to work with children.

We follow safer recruitment guidance when appointing any member of staff and  we use the DBS system to check the backgrounds of our staff and significant visitors.
